Our own town
(For those in our twin towns who would like to know something about us)
Horsham is a middle-sized town with about 50,000 inhabitants in the county of West Sussex, roughly half way between London and Brighton. It benefits economically from its proximity to London and to Gatwick Airport. Horsham has two cinemas, a theatre and many coffee shops and restaurants ranging from the simple up to the Michelin-starred Tristram's.
Catherine Howard, fifth wife of King Henry VIII, grew up at Chesworth, just south of Horsham. Her uncle was the 3rd Duke of Norfolk, and she went to live with the family aged about five, after the death of her mother.
A market on Thursdays and Saturdays offers the work of local artisans, a variety of street food and fresh produce.
There are flourishing sports clubs offering opportunities to watch matches as well as join in, covering cricket, rugby, football, running and many more.
Horsham was judged the fourth best place to live in the UK, by the 2020 Halifax Quality of Life Survey.
The first recorded mention of the town of Horsham comes in 947AD. The town was originally known for its horse market, later for iron and brick making and more recently brewing.
